Where it all began – part 2

Let the fun begin!  We spent the winter of 2013  planning for design, room layout, etc. I spent a lot of time looking on the internet for inspiration and ideas and drafting lots of plans for how we wanted to finish the cottage.  2014 was the year we put in the most work to  get the cottage looking more finished. Our kids were troopers that year- we spent most weekends and our vacation time working on the cottage so they didn’t really get a family holiday that year and it was boring just hanging out in a construction zone most of the time.

Sticky buns helped keep us happy!

The last night we stayed in the trailer- driven inside the cottage by swarms of mosquitoes. I think we still have nightmares!

Mark getting some help with these high ceilings and tricky angles.

Those 12 foot sheets were heavy and hard to manoeuvre. Thank goodness for the lift from our neighbour.

By the end of the year, we had the insulation, electrical, drywall, and priming done. We did most of it ourselves ( meaning Mark with some help from his Dad and me) with the exception of the drywall plastering, priming, and hooking up electrical which we hired out. Mark was impressive learning all these new skills. We take a lot of pride when we look at the finished product and know we did it ourselves ( and we saved money!)   You can see what we had to deal with after the sanding and priming ( Argh). The bathroom fixtures were installed that year too and we were ready to make it pretty and liveable. Finally!

Stay tuned for part 3 of our cottage adventures!
