Our adventure in Waterside started in 2010 when we began to dream about having a place to go for our vacations. At first we just wanted a place to take our trailer because we were tired of camping in close proximity to other people, using communal washrooms, and constantly packing and unpacking to go anywhere. We have both had a long history of heading to the Bay of Fundy area for day trips, camping trips, hangouts with friends and I even worked at the Fundy Park pool for 2 summers after high school. It was inevitable that we would be drawn to start looking for land along the Bay of Fundy. After scoping out a few places, even all the way to St. Martin’s, we happened to see a small sign that said “Land for Sale” in Waterside the summer of 2011. After lots of patience and work, we finally acquired the land in October of 2012. We camped on it the next summer with the tent trailer but the bugs and the wind won out and we decided to try to start building a place. At first we thought it would just be a cabin or camp to go to. But then we kept dreaming of the future and how we would use this property, were determined to do a lot of the finishing work ourselves to save money, and so the plans kind of evolved into something bigger. Plans were drawn and contractors found and ground was broken to start the build in September 2013!
Within 6 weeks or so the floor was poured and the shell up. Mark did all the organising and planning for the trades we needed to get. He did a great job getting them in the right order of when we needed them. It all seemed to go smoothly from my vantage point.
One of the 1st things I painted were these Adirondack chairs I had collected at various yard sales. Our dreams were coming true!
Part 2 of the dream to be continued…
