Nothing says more to me about the history of of Albert County and especially Riverside- Albert than when you drive through its’ streets with the large trees casting long shadows and come upon a large 3 story building that seems out of place, set back off the road, and unique in its’ construction and design. The Riverside Consolidated School has had its challenges in past years but it continues to stand strong with the help of its community and the many children and parents who have gone through its doors. Mark took a few pictures this fall that look great with the changing leaves.
Welcome back for another “Road to Waterside” feature. Thanks to everyone who liked or commented on the last post. I gave away a Spring sign to one of those people with a random draw. I hope we can do more like that in the future!
What is Stars and Stitches you ask? It is the shop owned by Sherry and Zack located in Stoney Creek, NB. Here is Sherry to answer some questions I gave her along with some great photos of their space and handmade products. I love everything in their shop!
Question 1: How long have you been open and what or who inspired you to open your business?
Question 2: How would you describe your shop?
My shop is filled with primitive, country, farmhouse style crafts, solid pine furniture, fun things like cute dolls & stuffed animals as well as home decor items that I have brought in. A couple years ago I took another leap and started my own line ( 1652 HomeLife) of soy candles, wax melts, room sprays, natural lip balms and soaps which have all taken off and are super popular amongst our customers.
Question 3: Where do you get inspiration for the projects you do and pieces you collect?
I get my inspiration from magazines, facebook, instagram as well as feedback from my customers.
Question 4: What other interests or hobbies do you have?
Outside of crafting my favourite hobby would be gardening. My husband Zack (who also builds pieces for the shop) built me the most amazing greenhouse right in the center of my garden! It’s a relaxing place to kick back and enjoy the garden as well as think of new things to make! I couldn’t have come this far without Zack. He’s been my number 1 supporter and really encouraged me to keep going and not give up even when it was tough!
Question 5: Do you have any future plans for your business?
Our shop is continuously growing ( we over doubled it’s size a year ago) and we’re always making new items to keep it filled. I hope to continue filling the shop with things people will love! Over the next year I would love to have more shops carry our 1652 HomeLife soy candle/wax melts/ room spray line ( currently we have shops in Saint John, Richibucto & Oromocto that carry our products). We offer wholesale prices to brick and mortar shops that want to carry our 1652 HomeLife products.
Question 6: How can people reach you and when can they visit your shop?
Thank you for sharing your story Sherry. Congratulations on all your success! I hope you love their shop as much as I do! Stop by and tell Sherry you saw her on the “Road to Waterside”.
Thanks for stopping by! Until next time… For April, we will have some maple syrup and gardening inspiration from Albert County!
