It’s December which means it’s my favourite month to decorate and make new items whether for the house or as gifts. It’s a form of relaxation and an outlet for me to be able express my creativity by making something beautiful with a little recycling , paint and ingenuity. I don’t consider myself naturally gifted but I do like to try my hand at making things.
This year I picked up some items at Front Porch Mercantile like this burlap pillow cover and stencil. I picked up a piece of pine at Kent and some Fusion Mineral Paint and got to painting. The stencil is from Funky Junk Interiors and it makes a buffalo check pattern!
I then cut out a quote to stencil with my Silhouette machine and voila! I love the effect and how it turned out.
I added the same buffalo check pattern to these tag shapes that are popular this year.Front Porch Mercantile offered a workshop to make them this year if you were lucky enough to get there!
Since I had rented this stencil from Front Porch Mercantile ( where you can also rent some other cute Christmas stencils) I wanted to get as many projects done as I could. I took this affordable linen pillow cover from IKEA and added the buffalo stencil to it as well. I then ironed on this cute tree shape from my fabric stash with fusible webbing. I am putting this into the physio auction at the hospital tomorrow so hope it gathers a few dollars!
I then took the burlap pillow cover and ironed on another quote with Freezer paper. Did you know you can iron on Freezer paper? It makes a great way to stencil on to fabric.I used Fusion Mineral Paint for the finished effect.
Love how this turned out as well!
My last project was with the plain burlap sock I had picked up at Star and Stitches Primitives during their open house a few weeks ago. I added this cute design.
You may have seen these chairs I posted on Facebook but I wanted to post them here. A couple old wooden chairs are transformed with a couple coats of paint. I love Fusion Mineral Paint because it covers so easily, and has a top coat included so it makes it very durable. You can pick the paint up at Front Porch Mercantile as well. I asked people to vote on which chair to donate to the physio auction and the red chair with the stencil won the votes.
I hope you have a merry time creating some projects of your own. You can do it with just a little paint and creativity.
Next week I will be sharing some favourite Christmas sweets and recipes.
